Why Ban the Clutter?

When you're in the house selling mode, all of a sudden your home becomes a financial asset. How do your get the most equity out of your house? Are you looking for the insider house selling tips that realtors know about, but homeowner rarely hear? Let us help you sort this issue out.

Everyday household clutter, while livable for you, is a killer to potential buyers. A buyer's eye is looking to accept your house as their new home. With clutter, its hard for them find and keep the illusion that they can sustain the illusion. While it's likely that their own home has its own clutter, human nature in all of us want something better than what we already have. Household clutter is a common buyer obstacle that you want to take care of before listing your house. Removing the clutter shows respect for your home and respect to potential buyers.

What do you remove and how much? Step into your buyer's shoes and look around your house. Become almost ruthless with your clutter. It gathers everywhere. On shelves, in draws, closets, garages, in kitchen cabinets and under beds. You'd be surprised at how many buyers are 'inspecting' your house for tell tale signs of clutter. A house that is free of clutter shows respect for the living space. As much open, clear space that you create, the easier it is for buyers to picture themselves in your house. You want to have a model home effect.  Model homes are immaculately clean and spacious and are free of almost everything that could be considered clutter.

For many house sellers, removing clutter is the hardest exercise they go through to showcase their house. After all, sellers have lived in their home for years and everything about the home has their personality in it. Carefully box up the items that need to be moved to your next home. Give away or throw away everything else that won't make the move. Have a friend come over to help point out areas that you may not recognize as clutter. It can be easy to get defensive, and that is why it's important to choose to see the home you now live in is no longer yours. It belongs to the buyer with the best offer. Put your house in its best possible light, roll up your sleeves and ban the clutter.
